History
On land that was once part of the historic Dos Pueblos land grant, H.C. Tex Blankenship and his wife Emma built the original Timbers building in 1945. In World War II, a Japanese submarine shelled the oil facility in northern Goleta, hitting the Ellwood Pier. Blankenship salvaged the pine timbers from the pier, some schrapnel scarred, to construct the original Timbers building. Stonemasons John and James Rezzonico used displaced boulders from the Cachuma Dam project to construct the grand fireplace in the main hall.
